DiscoverArt Second Saturday
Since 2016, the DiscoverArt 2nd Saturday events have been held monthly mostly at the end of Pauahi Street fronting Art at Marks Garage and at times including adjacent sidewalks on Nuuanu and Bethel Streets. "Walk on the Wild Side" celebrations were inaugurated in 2015 incorporating a health fair with displays of art and musical performances. These and other signature events organized by CAE are pilot projects to realize the city center as it could exist without the noise, danger, and interruption of motorized traffic. As demonstrated in cities on the mainland and around the world, judicious use of street closures to motor vehicles can free people to walk and bicycle enjoyably, recovering the city centers that may have been forgotten or out of reach, opening the eyes of residents to see their city as would a tourist. Because these closures are infrequent, they are seen as special opportunities, a rare experience to be sought after. When aptly paired with a mix of other attractions, such as art sessions, displays, music performances, and health fairs, these special events can be the rare chance for the public to see Honolulu, in many cases, for the first time.
